Cake City, an award-winning small and medium enterprise in Kenya, has opened a new branch along Kiambu Road as part of its proactive expansion strategy.
The new outlet is located at EBC Center within Shell Petrol Station near Evergreen Center and now brings Cake City’s total operating outlets to nine, and is the first store to be opened in 2023. The company has branches in Westlands, Kilimani, and Langata among others places around Nairobi.
Cake City said its decision to open a new outlet along Kiambu Road is supported by several factors, including a good transport network. Kiambu road is accessible through the Boma Road and Ruiru-Kamiti Road, which will enhance its customers’ and suppliers’ accessibility.
EBC Center is also strategically positioned along Kiambu Road and provides a high footfall from residents of the surrounding estates and those stopping to fuel at the Shell station.
Cake City CEO Mohamed Zahir said the decision to expand along Kiambu Road was also supported by rapid development and expansion activities being witnessed in the area.
“A lot is going on around Kiambu Road. The roads are expanding, the estates are growing, and investors are flocking to the area,” he said.
The CEO added that Kiambu Road also has favorable demographics, such as the rising middle-income earning class with a higher purchasing power that is driving demand for products such as cakes.
The newly launched outlet will continue to serve its signature cakes, including Milky Caramel, White Forest, Black Forest, Red Velvet Cake and so on. It will also offer themed cakes, novelty cakes, wedding cakes and all other occasion cakes.
Cake City said it would also open more outlets in Nairobi’s satellite towns within the next few months.
Cake City named East Africa’s leading Cake Shop
The outlet’s opening comes weeks after Cake City was named East Africa’s leading cake shop in the Pacesetters Awards (PSA) of 2022.
The Pacesetters Awards is an annual industry leadership recognition program organized by the Jubilant Stewards of Africa (JSA), a Non-Governmental Organisation.
The awards celebrate SMEs and mid-sized companies across ten African countries, leading in innovation, quality products, and service delivery. It also recognizes companies creating jobs and contributing significantly towards an economy.
Cake City emerged as the winner of the hotly contested Pacesetter in Cake Shop of the Year 2022, following an intensive survey conducted by JSA across East Africa between August and October 2022.
Cake City is a subsidiary of Pride Group, which also operates PrideInn Hotels, Resorts and Camps, as well as online shopping platform Airduka, which connects buyers and sellers.
Naivas opens new branch
In a separate story, Kenyan retailer Naivas Supermarket recently opened a new outlet at Shell-Express Uthiru located along Waiyaki Way Road.
The new branch now brings Naivas’ number of operating outlets nationwide to 91. It also comes a month after the retailer opened five new outlets at Meru’s Greenwood City Mall, Kahawa Sukari Junction, Ruai town, Parkland’s Boardwalk Mall, and, Nairobi West Shopping Center in Nairobi West.
According to analysts, the opening of Uthiru’s new can be attributed to several factors including the urge to increase its presence in new regions where the retailer had not tapped into hence offering convenient shopping experience to customers.
It could also be pegged on Naivas’ bid to fill the market gap left by exiting retailers in the Uthiru like Tuskys, and a strategic location of the outlet along the busy Waiyaki Way which connects to Nakuru enhancing its customer base and accessibility to the store.
